Throughout the IPL 2023, Dhoni’s retirement was one of the major talking points of the season. Virender Sehwag and Kevin Pietersen also shared their thoughts on the matter. Even Dhoni’s former CSK teammate Michael Hussey opened up on Dhoni’s potential retirement.
In the post-match interview post-finale, Harsha Bhogle asked about the former Indian player’s return to IPL 2024 to which Dhoni said that it all depends on his body as well as his fitness level at that time.
“Looking for an answer? Circumstantially if you see this is the best time for me to announce retirement. But the amount of love and affection that I have been shown, wherever I have been this year…I think the easy thing for me to say would be to say ‘Thank you very much’, but the tough thing for me would be to work hard for nine months and come back and play at least one more season of IPL. But a lot depends on the body,” MS added.
