Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni was seen at the Chennai airport weeks ahead of the IPL mega auction. He is expected to meet members of the franchise to conduct the strategy for the event on February 12 and 13.
Dhoni was retained by the four-time champions as a second pick. Ravindra Jadeja was named as the first pick by the team and was retained for a sum of 16 crores. The other two retentions were Moeen Ali and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
The skipper even checked into a hotel in the city and will assist the franchise in terms of planning for auctions, where CSK have done well in the past.
Dhoni has been a major influence on the team’s picks at the auction. Even in the past, he has been in constant touch with the personnel and has been clear in terms of the players he desires.
Following the maximum of 4 retentions, CSK have 48 crores left in their purse to forge the remaining of their squad.
Dhoni had cleared the air regarding his future with the franchise prior to the player retentions. In a public event, he assured the fanbase that his final game would be in front of a packed stadium at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.
“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and se play me for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell.
“Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there,”
Dhoni had also shed light on the mega auction and the transition period that would come with it. The 40-year-old had said:
“Well it’s not about me playing for CSK, it’s about what is best for CSK. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,”
