Motera stadium to have 55,000 spectators for the third test

The newly renovated Motera Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium located in Ahmedabad has a capacity of 110,000 seats. It is set to host the third Test match between India and England. The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has decided to allow 50% of the capacity for the pink ball test match.

Reportedly, 55,000 tickets will be on sale and this is for the first time that a sporting event which will see such a huge crowd since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last March.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is hopeful that the cap on spectators will be removed in the near future. A BCCI source has informed that:

“The GCA has decided on a 50 per cent capacity. There isn’t much rush yet but it is expected that the sales will pick up in the coming 3-4 days. This will be the first international match at this revamped venue.”

It is to be noted that the third Test being a pink ball day-night test match, a lot of spectators are expected to turn up at the venue.

GCA is expecting at least 30,000 spectators on the first day of the Test. The source added: “We might have a function to mark the occasion.”

The decision on the pitch is yet to be taken

Motera Stadium has two kinds of pitches ready for the next two Tests. The stadium has a square of 11 pitches out of which six of them are made with red soil while the rest are regular ones.

It is reported that both the options will be provided to BCCI. There are a couple of pitches of each kind prepared for the Test. Now, The BCCI curator is supervising the preparation and a proper decision on the pitch will not be taken until both the teams reach Ahmedabad for the match.

The hosts trailed the series after the first test match losing to the visitors by 227 runs which saw Joe Root’s remarkable performance after securing a double ton.

However, the Men in Blue made a comeback in the second test match when they got the victory after Ravichandran Ashwin’s extraordinary showcase with both ball and bat. The third test match is set to commence on February 24.
