Monchi could be sacked today; Arsenal on high alert

AS Roma’s recent run of form has seen the Serie A side drop out of the Champions League and drop points in Italy. Manager Eusebio di Francesco was sacked immediately on Thursday, while footballing director Monchi prepares for the same. Arsenal, on the other hand, prepare their bid for a similar role at the Emirates.

Sven Mislintat was said to be the beacon to guide Arsenal in their post-Wenger era. However the German left the club last month just over a year after joining, and the north London side were left with an empty spot in the scout’s seat.

Monchi was seen backing di Francesco after the Giallorossi crashed out of Europe’s elitemost contest, and later indulged in altercations with the fans.

The Spaniard fell out with Roma’s top brass prior and with the previously mentioned incidents, the Rome-based outfit are tipped to sack the 50-year old scout as early as today.

Former Leicester and Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri is set to take over the reigns at the Stadio Olimpicos and with Monchi tipped for the axe, the Gunners, who are hungry for a director of football, could be present with one as soon as next week, as the club’s higher officials aim for an Emery-Monchi reunion at the Emirates, as had been at Sevilla 4 years ago.

Another prospect for the job remains Ajax’s current director of football and former Arsenal player Marc Overmars. However situations are such that the scale appears to be tipped in Monchi’s side.
