Maurizio Sarri decided to call it quits at Chelsea after angry chants of ‘Sarri out’ and ‘f*** Sarri-ball’ from fans during the club’s win over Cardiff back in March.
The 60-year-old Italian is eyeing a return to his homeland with Juventus, after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
Sarri reached the breaking point, thanks to the furious jeering from the stands in the Welsh capital. The travelling fans made their feelings for their club’s boss pretty clear in a high-handed, brutal and truculent manner.
Cesar Azpilicueta’s lucky strike from an offside position put Chelsea back into the game, before Ruben Loftus-Cheek secured a late winner. The win helped Chelsea on their way to a top-four finish, along with Sarri securing his first major trophy, beating Arsenal 4-1 at the Europa League final in Baku.
Despite of all these, the under-fire boss struggled to win the hearts of fans, the dressing room and receiving little to no support from the club chiefs.
However, the club bosses are refusing to let Sarri leave for free, after securing his services last summer through a deal with Napoli that also brought Jorginho to the Bridge.
The clubs are nearing a £7 million compensation package that will help Frank Lampard, a Blues legend and a fan-favourite to secure his place as the new boss of the club.
