Mohun Bagan Super Giants

Mohun Bagan Super Giants (MBSG) delivered a stellar performance against Bengaluru FC, securing a 4-0 victory at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium. This triumph has set the stage for a thrilling face-off with Mumbai City FC for the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 League Winners Shield.

A dominating win for Mohun Bagan Super Giants

MB SG approached the game with a clear vision, unleashing their formidable attacking personnel on Bengaluru FC. The team’s strategy paid off, with four different players – Hector Yuste, Manvir Singh, Anirudh Thapa, and Armando Sadiku – scoring goals.

The game began with Hector Yuste scoring in the 17th minute. A corner kick by Dimitrios Petratos found Yuste in a slightly vacant spot near the right post. Yuste’s initial shot hit the crossbar, but he quickly recovered the rebound and netted it in, giving MB SG an early lead.

Bengaluru FC had a chance to equalize when Anwar Ali fouled Sunil Chhetri inside the penalty area. However, Chhetri’s spot-kick hit the crossbar, leaving Bengaluru FC trailing by a goal at halftime.

The second half saw MB SG seal the game within the first 15 minutes. Manvir Singh played a crucial role, setting up Joni Kauko for a back-heeled pass that Singh received and slid into the back of the net in the 51st minute. A fast break three minutes later tripled MB SG’s lead, with Thapa scoring this time.

Manvir continued to torment Bengaluru FC’s defence, racing down the left flank and beating his markers for sheer pace before setting up a straightforward assist that Sadiku scored from in the 59th minute.

With this victory, MB SG has kept their hopes of ending the campaign at the top spot of the table alive. They now have 45 points from 21 games, trailing the top-placed Mumbai City FC by just two points. The upcoming clash between the two teams on April 15 at the Salt Lake Stadium will determine the winner of the ISL 2023-24 League Winners Shield.
