Mohammedan Sporting Club is set to face a fine of Rs 1 lakh following incidents of fan violence during their Indian Super League (ISL) match against Kerala Blasters on October 20, 2024. The match, held at the Kishore Bharati Stadium in Kolkata, was marred by unruly behaviour from the home fans, leading to a temporary halt in play.
The Incident
The unrest began after Jesus Jimenez scored a goal for Kerala Blasters in the 75th minute, prompting celebrations from the visiting fans. In response, Mohammedan SC supporters in the adjacent stand began throwing bottles, shoes, and other objects at the Kerala Blasters fans. The situation escalated quickly, with objects being hurled onto the field, forcing the referee to pause the match for at least five minutes.
Official Complaint and Investigation against Mohammedan Sporting Club
Following the match, Kerala Blasters lodged an official complaint with the ISL and the All India Football Federation (AIFF), citing concerns over the safety of their players and supporters. The AIFF and ISL have given Mohammedan Sporting until October 26 to respond to the disciplinary committee on the complaint of improper fan behaviour.
