India are all set to take on Australia in the upcoming tournament that includes three ODIs, as many T20I and four Tests as well. However, many thought India’s bowling attack will make a difference which also included the pace spearhead Mohammed Shami, who has been in great form for the last few years. He was in a sublime form in the recently-concluded IPL 2020 and is also the highest wicket-taker in ODIs during the last couple of years as well.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami has taken 50 wickets in just 25 matches which came at an average of 24.24 and strike rate of 25.7, including three 4-wicket hauls and one 5-wicket haul since the starting of 2019. Notably, he is the highest wicket-taker in ODI in this period as well. In the New Zealand tour in early 2019, Mohammed Shami was India’s joint-highest wicket-taker with 9 wickets in 4 matches which came at 15.33.

Despite playing just 4 matches in the 2019 World Cup in England, he picked up 14 wickets at 13.78 including a hat-trick against Afghanistan, a 4-wicket haul against the West Indies and a five-wicket haul against hosts England. With much surprise, he was not added in the XI in the crucial semi-final against New Zealand. Even he was also the leading wicket-taker with 7 wickets from 3 matches against Australia at home in early 2020.

Apart from his show in 2019 World Cup, he was the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the 2015 World Cup with 17 wickets in 7 innings which came at 17.29 – right after Starc and Boult (22 wickets) and Yadav (18 wickets). Meanwhile, he has claimed 31 wickets in just 11 World Cup matches at 15.7 so far with the strike rate of 18.6 – the best for any bowler (min. 30 wickets) in the history of World Cup. With this amazing record, he even surpassed Starc (19.1), Lee (23.5), Tait (24) and Malinga (24.8) behind.

As the two best teams – India and Australia are preparing to take on each other, Mohammed Shami will certainly play the key role for the team to win the tournament, that will start from November 27.
