In a significant development for Indian sports, Asian Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat has been granted permission to include her personal strength and conditioning coach, Wayne Patrick Lombard, in the upcoming training camp in Hungary.
This decision was made by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) and marks a crucial step in Phogat’s preparation for the Paris Olympics 2024.

The training camp, scheduled from June 10 to 21, is part of Phogat’s rigorous preparation regime for the Paris Olympics, where she will be competing in the 50kg division. Phogat had requested assistance for Lombard’s airfare, visa fees, board and lodging, and local transport in Hungary.
Before the training camp, Phogat will be competing in the United World Wrestling 2nd Ranking Series – Polyák Imre & Varga János Memorial from June 6 to 9 in Budapest. This event will provide her with valuable competitive experience and a chance to test her skills against some of the world’s best wrestlers.

In addition to the training camp in Hungary, Phogat has also been approved to compete in the Grand Prix of Spain from July 5 to 7 in Madrid. Her support team for this event will include physiotherapist Ashwini Jeevan Patil, sparring partner Arvind, and coach Woller Akos. These events form a crucial part of her preparation, providing her with international exposure and a chance to refine her techniques.
