India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar revealed his preference for star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli over cricket legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar. This choice, he explained, was influenced by Kohli’s exceptional fitness levels and attitude.

Virat Kohli has been the backbone of Team India’s batting and has been one of their biggest match-winners of the decade gone by. The Delhi-born cricketer has also left an indelible mark on the sport and has earned the respect of the cricketing fraternity worldwide through his sportsmanship.

Jaishankar lauds Virat Kohli’s fitness

Dr Jaishankar, known for his avid interest in cricket, highlighted Kohli’s fitness levels and attitude as decisive factors. He stated, “I love all three, but there is bias on my part only due to fitness. That is why I chose Virat Kohli. All three are different, but my bias is in Kohli’s direction because I love his fitness and attitude.”

Kohli’s fitness and attitude have not only mesmerized billions of Indians but also India’s foreign minister. He was in spectacular form in the recently concluded IPL 2024. He won the Orange Cap for finishing off as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 714 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 with 5 fifties and a hundred to his name. He managed to shut down his critics by striking at 154.70 and managed to smash 38 sixes in the tournament.

Kohli’s sensational form was key to RCB scripting one of the greatest comebacks in IPL’s history. RCB won 6 matches on the trot after losing 7 out of their first 8 matches to make it to the playoffs. However, RCB was knocked out of the race to the final with RR emerging victorious by 4 wickets in the Eliminator match in Ahmedabad on May 22.

After showing his prowess in the T20 league, Kohli will join the Indian team in the USA for the upcoming T20 World Cup that will begin on June 2. The 35-year-old could not fly with the first batch of the Indian players to the USA due to paperwork issues.
