Serie A side AC Milan manger Gennaro Gattuso has back tracked on his statements regarding striker Gonzalo Higuain’s wish to leave the club, and now has stated that the Argentine forward did not express any such desire to him, despite his continuous links out of Italy.

Days after former Milan player turned manager Gattuso claimed he had no say in Higuain’s choices and that it was difficult to convince him to stay at the club now that he had made up his mind, the manager now goes on to claim that the striker is happy where he is at this time and this moment.

After being heavily linked with a move out of Italy over to Premier League side Chelsea, Higuain will hope to reunite with his former boss Maurizio Sarri who worked with him at Napoli. And while Higuain is on a season long at AC Milan from fellow Serie A side Juventus, the Blues will be triggering the 31-year old Argentine’s release clause for a permanent move.

However, with Gattuso falling back on his previous claims, the certainty of the move remains in the shadows as of yet.

“I hear a lot of rumors on Higuain, but he is training well, he is happy with his team-mates, he is happy with everyone,” Gattuso said.

“He still hasn’t told me he wants to leave, I am still waiting. You know what I mean,” he added.

It is yet to be seen whether the forward will feature in tonight’s Supercoppa Italiana against Juventus.
