Ishan Kishan became one of the biggest acquisitions in IPL auction history after Mumbai Indians made the massive winning bid. The five-time winners overcame an extensive bidding war with Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to extend their association with the wicket-keeper batter.
Kishan was purchased by the franchise in the last auction for ₹6.20 crores. This time around, after being a seasoned player over the course of the last three editions, a huge bidding war ensued.
Mumbai Indians were unable to retain the 23-year-old after going with Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav. The franchise were relatively inactive in the marquee players round and only entered in a meek battle for their former player Trent Boult.
It is highly likely that Kishan will be the most expensive player at the 2022 IPL mega auction. The player is currently with the Indian team in Ahmedabad after being included in the team as a late inclusion following a COVID break.
Kishan cemented the No.4 spot for Mumbai Indians and performed admirably, especially in the IPL 2020, where he was the leading run-scorer for the team. The five-time winners are likely to go all out for all-rounders after losing the Pandya brothers to the new franchises.
