Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer has identified a rising star who could make a significant impact in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. That player is none other than Mayank Yadav, a young Indian fast bowler.

Mayank Yadav’s dream IPL Debut

Yadav burst onto the scene during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. His searing pace rattled batters, earning him accolades. In his debut match against PBKS, he picked up 3/27, helping LSG defend 199 and winning the Player of the Match award. He continued his impressive form, taking 3/14 in his second game against RCB.

Mayank consistently bowls over 150 km. Despite battling injuries throughout the season, he showcased his ability to trouble batsmen. With the right support and fitness, he could be a game-changer for India.

Wasim Jaffer believes that if India’s pace trio—Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj—remain fit and play most of the series, India has a great chance for a hat-trick down under. Jaffer also sees Mayank Yadav as a dark horse, provided he’s fit and available.

“If Bumrah, Shami and Siraj stay fit and are able to play most of the series, India have a great opportunity for a hat-trick down under. Arshdeep could bring the left-arm option. And Mayank Yadav dark horse provided he’s fit and available,” wrote Jaffer on his X account.

As the Border-Gavaskar Trophy approaches, all eyes will be on Mayank Yadav. If he lives up to his potential, he could be the surprise package that swings the series in India’s favour.
