Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has recently made a bold prediction about Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli. He believes that Kohli, who is currently playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, could surpass his own record-breaking performance from the 2016 season.

In the 2016 IPL, Kohli had an extraordinary run, scoring a whopping 973 runs in just 16 matches. This included four centuries and seven half-centuries, showcasing his exceptional batting prowess. His average was an impressive 81.08, and he maintained a strike rate of 152.03. These statistics not only led him to win the Orange Cap for that season but also set a record for the highest number of runs scored in a single IPL season.

Matthew Hayden’s praise of Virat Kohli

Hayden praised Kohli’s energy, passion, and commitment to the sport, stating that his love for the game makes him a great player. He said, “We are looking at Virat Kohli celebrating his second-best season thus far. He could go well past his IPL 2016 performance in the kind of form that he’s in. So more than anything, I just think it’s the energy and the love of the game, the passion, the commitment for it all—all of those describing words that you can glorify this great man with, whether it be on the field or with the bat in hand. He just loves it, it’s crazy.”

Hayden’s prediction comes at a time when Kohli is in scintillating form in the ongoing IPL 2024. He has already amassed 708 runs this season in 14 games. If RCB advances to the final, Kohli could potentially have three more innings to set a new record in the IPL.
