Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has expressed his confidence in the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) winning their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title. He believes that the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy will play a pivotal role in this achievement.
KKR’s brutal form in IPL 2024
KKR has been in exceptional form this season, finishing at the top of the points table in the group stage with nine wins from 14 matches. They further cemented their position in the final after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 by eight wickets.
Hayden picked KKR as the favourites, citing their good break leading up to the game and their understanding of SRH’s strengths and weaknesses as key factors. He also highlighted the threat posed by Narine and Chakravarthy on the red clay pitch in Chennai. Both Narine (16 wickets) and Chakravarthy (20 wickets) have been in top form this season, being the highest wicket-takers for KKR.
“I’m very confident that KKR are going to win here, as having a few days off, having the ability to watch this match, and understanding what the strengths and weaknesses of Sunrisers Hyderabad are will be helpful. KKR, having defeated SRH, is going to have great momentum. I also just feel that the quality spin of Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy on the red clay is going to make a difference,” said Matthew Hayden.

Hayden’s confidence in KKR’s victory is not unfounded. KKR has shown dominance throughout the season, not only maintaining a good run rate but also demonstrating excellent team effort. They have beaten SRH twice this season, once in the league stage and then in Qualifier 1.
The final match of the IPL 2024 is set to take place on Sunday, May 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With KKR’s formidable spin arsenal and a track record favouring them against SRH, the final promises to be an electrifying showdown.
