India’s Olympic Bronze medallist Mary Kom was adjudged the best female athlete by the Asian Sportswriters Union at the ‘Awards for Asia’ ceremony in Malaysia.
AIPS Asia was the organization that gave away the award for the very first time in order to honor the Asian Athletes who have performed at the top most level.
The prestigious award was given away by the Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Tuan Haji Amirudin Shari. While Mary Kom herself could not be present to receive the award, Subodh Malla Barua, a sports journalist received the award on her behalf.
Mary Kom is currently eyeing a record seventh World Championship gold medal in the AIBA World Boxing Championships which starts on September 7th. This time Kom will be seen showing her presence in the 51kg category opposed to the 48kg one.
