Seeded sixth for the tournament, Manju saw herself overcome Venezuela’s Rojas Tayonis Cedeno by an overwhelming scoreline of 5-0 to move to the quarters.

Rani was far from her best but she continued to fetch all the points in the game. The match saw both the boxers play more defensively.

While she needs just one more victory to assure herself of a medal, it will however be a daunting task as she has to face the top seed Kim Hyang Mi of South Korea. The match is scheduled for October 10.

On Tuesday, MC Mary Kom (51kg) will begin her campaign when she takes on Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand in the round of 16.

Saweety Boora (75kg) will also be seen in action. She will square off against the second-seed Lauren Price of Wales.
