The Indian mixed doubles duo of Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran have made it to the final round of the ongoing WTT Contender Doha 2022 event, currently taking place in the Qatari capital, after winning their semifinal clash on Tuesday.

The Manika-Sathiyan pair defeated second seeded duo of Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem of Hong Kong 13-11, 9-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8 in their last four and will now take on top seeded pair Lin Yun-Ju and Cheng I-Ching of Taiwan in the final. The Indian pair ranked no 7, came off of a 3-1 (11-7, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8) victory over world No 329 duo of Christina Kallberg and Kristian Karlsson of Sweden in the quarterfinals.

However, it was not a great campaign for Manika Batra in the women’s doubles category. Pairing up with Archana Kamath, the WTT Contender Lasko champions from last year, lost to Taiwanese duo Chen Szu-Yu and Huang Yi-Hua 0-3 (11-5, 11-9, 11-6) in the quarterfinals. Both Sathiyan and Manika had also lost in the first rounds of their men’s and women’s singles events, respectively.

World no 34 Sharath Kamal, meanwhile, cruised past Lim Jonghoon of Korea 11-6, 11-5, 6-11, 16-14 in the men’s singles quarterfinals, and will face Croatian paddler Tomislav Pucar on Wednesday.
