Manika Batra, India’s first-ever woman to reach the Round of 16 in table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympics, captured hearts with her remarkable campaign. Manika scripted history by becoming the first Indian table tennis player to advance to the Olympics’ singles pre-quarterfinals.
Her victory over world number 18 and home favourite Prithika Pavade in the Round of 32 was a significant milestone. In the Round of 16, Manika faced a formidable opponent: Japan’s Miu Hirano. Despite her valiant efforts, Manika’s dream run came to an end as she was defeated in five games (4-1) by Hirano. The match was intense, with moments of brilliance from both players.
