Mandeep Jangra, the undefeated pro boxer from India, has been signed up by none other than Roy Jones Jr- a legendary figure in boxing, to compete on the professional circuit for the next three years, becoming the pugilist from the country to be associated with the former four-division world champion.
A Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Mandeep turned professional in 2020 and has won all three of his pro bouts so far. The 29-year-old will have his next bout against local boxer Ryan Rebar on the 1st of April in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.
Having signed up by Jones Jr, the 54-year-old who is considered one of the greatest in the sport ever, an elated Mandeep spoke to PTI from Florida regarding his signing.
“I have been signed up by the great Roy Jones Jr, and this is huge for me. I mean there can be no one better than him for me as far as my professional boxing career is concerned. This adds a new dimension to my journey in the pro-circuit,” said Jangra.
A 2015 Arjuna awardee, Mandeep defeated American boxer Brendan Sandoval in Plant City, Florida in March last year. The upcoming clash against Ryan will be his fourth fight as a professional. Ryan has also won all of his three fights so far.
“Like me, he also holds a 3-0 record, but I quite confident of overcoming the challenges posed by him without much ado,” Mandeep commented on his next opponent.
