Dembele has been on Manchester United’s radar since his youth days in PSG. Negotiations between both the parties broke down then and the striker signed with Fulham. Having scored 19 goals in 54 appearances in Premier League and Championship combined, Dembele penned the deal with Scottish giants Celtics.

The Frenchman played for them three seasons, scoring 51 goals in 94 appearances. At the end of the 2017-18 season, Lyon signed the youngster on a three-year deal. Lyon will have the upper hand in the negotiations as Dembele is contracted with them till 2021.

Manchester United not playing in the Champions League next season further reduces their ability to bargain. Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba are likely to part ways with United the next season and the club is also making plans to offload Alexis Sanchez and his heavy wage bills.

Interesting time lay ahead for Manchester United and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer window.
