Derby County overcame an arduous Manchester United challenge at Old Trafford to secure their spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. After a 2-2 scoreline at full-time , The Rams held on to win 8-7 on penalties after Phil Jones’ kick was saved by the former Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Juan Mata scored the first goal of the game and his first in nine months . The lead was not long lived as Derby’s Harry Wilson equalized. Things went on from bad to worse for The Red Devils as the United goalkeeper Sergio Romero was sent off for handling the ball outside the box after what looked like a horrendous mistake.
Derby took the lead through Jack Marriott header’s in the 85th minute. It was again a Marouane Fellaini header to rescue United on this occasion deep in the 95th minute.
Lampard’s men had to endure 8 rounds of penalty shootout before celebrating with their 3000 travelling fans on a historic night for the club .
Mourinho’s was a frustrated figure throughout the game but was graceful in defeat after his former Chelsea player, Frank Lampard expressed : ‘He [Mourinho] said what a great performance it was from the [Derby] team. I appreciate that because it’s not easy in defeat in that last moment.’
Lampard also added : ‘It was an honour for me to go up against him.’ That goes to show the magnitude of mutual respect between arguably the greatest manager of Chelsea F.C. and the top most scorer of all time of Chelsea F.C.
