Manchester City clinched the Community Shield title with beating Liverpool in the penalty shootout. The match ended with a scoreline of 1-1 after 90 minutes. All the penalty takers converted from the spot except Wijnaldum as his shot was saved by Claudio Bravo.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoresheet for Manchester City at the 12th minute of the match. Leroy Sane picked up an injury and Manchester City were awarded a freekick. David Silva passed the ball towards Raheem Sterling who placed it perfectly into the Goal. Gabriel Jesus came in place of Leroy Sane at the 13th minute of the match. The first half ended with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Manchester City.
In the second half of the match, Manchester City got several chances but they failed to convert those. Liverpool also came close to score a goal few times but the luck was not favouring them. Joel Matip came in place of Trent Alexander Arnold in the second half.
Joel Matip’s header at the 77th minute helped them to equalise the scoreline. At the very end of the match, Kyle Walker’s heroic goal line save kept the scoreline 1-1 after the end of 90 minutes. Claudio Bravo saved the shot of Wijnaldum in the tiebreaker. Gabriel Jesus successfully converted the last penalty for Manchester City to help them winning the Community Shield.
