Indian table tennis has reached a new milestone with the men’s doubles duo of Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah (Manav-Manush) achieving a career-high of World No. 12 in the fresh ITTF rankings. This significant leap in ranking is the result of their consistent and dominant performances, which have seen them reach three back-to-back finals.
Manav-Manush’s Journey to career-best rank
Their journey to this career-best ranking began with their participation in the WTT Feeder Beirut event in March, where they reached the finals and secured a silver medal. Despite losing to Andy Pereira and Jorge Campos in four games, their performance was commendable.
A few days later, they redeemed themselves in the WTT Feeder Beirut II. In the finals, they faced fellow Indians Mudit Dani and Akash Pal and emerged victorious with a score of 3-1 (11-7, 11-5, 9-11, 11-6).
Following their success in Lebanon, Thakkar and Shah participated in the WTT Feeder Otocec. They once again reached the summit clash, but despite an early advantage in the finals, they were unable to clinch the title. They lost 12-10, 8-11, 11-7, 12-14, 8-11 to Korea’s Kim Minhyeok and Park Ganghyeon.
Despite the loss, their consistent performances and ability to reach the finals in consecutive tournaments contributed significantly to their surge in the ITTF rankings.

Manav-Manush’s rise in the world rankings is not just a personal achievement but also a significant development for Indian table tennis. It marks a new high in the sport and sets a benchmark for other players. Their success serves as an inspiration for upcoming players and is likely to boost the popularity of the sport in India.
