While PV Sindhu grabbed most of the headlines after being Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 in the finals of the World Championships, Manasi Joshi too quietly secured the gold after winning the BWF Para Badminton World Championships the previous day.

The win marked Joshi’s first gold medal, which she secured by defeating her compatriot Parul Parmer in the women’s singles final. Similar to Sindhu, Joshi did not have the odds stacked in her favor since she had failed to get the better of her opponent in recent times.

Joshi however kept her composure and went on to display an attacking style of play, unleashing a wide array of shots added with a number of fast strokes to emerge victorious in a closely contested match.

Along with the gold from Joshi, India claimed a total of 12 medals in the Para Badminton World Championships this year.
