It wasn’t a good day for the title contenders in the La Liga as UCL Champions Real Madrid slumped to an utterly embarrassing loss to Sevilla by 3 goals to nil after a poor performance by the Galacticos. Sevilla scored 3 goals in the first half itself and the shock was something Real could never recover for the remainder of the match.
Andre Sliva hit Los Blancos like a battering ram with two quickfire goals in the 17th and the 21st minute. The first chance was created by a low cross from the right straight into the path of the Portuguese who finished it off with relative ease while the second chance was an open goal as far as Silva was concerned, with the ball rebounding off of Cortuois’ gloves from an earlier attempt.
Wissam Ben Yedder ended any comeback hopes with a third goal in the 38th minute as the ball was scooped up over the Real defence with incredible accuracy onto the foot of the Frenchman, with Ben Yedder nudging it past the keeper into the back of the net.
Questions were asked at the beginning of the season whther Real would be the same without Ronaldo and Zidane, and Sevilla was a big test in that respect which the Galacticos failed. With the Madrid derby coming up, Lopategi and his players will be under the microscope of the critucs especially after this most humiliating result.
