Bajrang Punia has been on a roll lately. He won a Gold medal at the Ali Aliev invitational tournament last Thursday in the 65kg category. The tournament took place in Dagestan, Russia which is also the birthplace of UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Bajrang defeated Viktor Rassadin 13-8 in the final to take home the gold medal. He was initially losing the match on points, but he rallied back in the final minute and beat the Russian.

Just last month, Punia defeated Sayatbek Okassov of Kazakstan 12-7 in the final of Asian Wrestling championship to win gold.

Bajrang’s dominant performance has not only shaken the wrestlers in his weight category, but it has also made wrestlers from other weight classes respect him.

London Olympic gold medalist and four-time world champion Jordan Burroughs took to Twitter to praise the Indian superstar wrestlers and called him the GOAT.

Punia will now be wrestling at the Madison Square Garden on May 6 at the ‘Beat the Streets’ competition. He will wrestle two-time NCAA champion Yianni Diakomihalis. On the same event, Burroughs will wrestle former ONE and Bellator welterweight champ and current UFC contender Ben Askren.

I am now looking forward to participating at Madison Square Garden and will continue to do my best to live up to the nation’s expectations in the tournaments to come,” Bajrang said.
