In an emotional post on Twitter, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar recalls the first time he wore the Indian cap 29 years ago. On this day in 1989, the legendary cricketer made his Test debut against Pakistan in Karachi. He shared a #throwback picture and captaioned it, “This day, every year, brings back so many memories of the day I 1st represented India. It was an honour to play for the country and be able to represent India for 24 years. #TBT #ThrowbackThursday.”

In his debut match, Tendulkar was dismissed for 15 runs in the first innings. However, he did not get to bat in the second innings as the match ended in a draw. India’s scoreboard read 303/3 in response to Pakistan’s 453.
Both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted on Twitter in honour of the master blaster.

Coincidentally, Tendulkar’s final Test innings came on the same day, in 2013, against West Indies at his home ground in Mumbai. The batsman scored 74 runs in the match before he was dismissed by Narsingh Deonarine. India went on to win the match by an innings and 126 runs.
Tendulkar played a total of 200 Tests, 463 ODIs and 1 T20I. In his stellar career, Tendulkar scored 15,921 runs in the longest format of the game, at an average of 53.78,with 51 centuries under his belt. He also scored 18,426 ODI-runs at an average of 44.83 with 49 tons under his name.
