Late Gurjit Kaur goal gives India leg up in bilateral series with Great Britain

Indian women hockey team edged past Great Britain in the first match of the bilateral series between these two countries. It was a nervy win for India as they came back from behind with a late goal of Gurjit Kaur to snatch all three points from this match.

In the first quarter of the match, both the teams took cautious approach. However, in the second quarter of the match, the intensity of the match got increased. Indian women’s team earned two consecutive penalty corners. However, they failed to convert those penalty corners into goals. The goalkeeper of the home side, Maddie Hinch was brilliant under the bars.

The goalkeeper of India, Savita Punia also saved a shot of Great Britain. After the first half of the match, the result remained as 0-0. In the final quarter of the match, 3 goals have been scored by the teams. Great Britain scored the first goal of the match at the 46th minute of the match. However, the score was equalised by Sharmila Devi after few moments. India got the win with a goal of Gurjit Kaur at the last minute of the match and Great Britain had no chance to make a comeback in the match.

The next match between these two sides will take place on Sunday.
