With almost all slamming MS Dhoni for a poor showing this world cup, Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga has let out a statement that contradicts each one of those criticisms.

Ahead of Sri Lanka’s clash vs India today, Lasith Malinga went on to back the former Indian skipper stating that he still had one or two years still left in his career. Also Malinga felt that Dhoni’s presence in the side could benefit the youngsters massively.

“I think MS (Dhoni) should play for another one or two years. He is the best finisher in the last 10 years. I don’t think anyone can beat him in future. He has to give his experience and situation handling to all the young players. They (India) have good experience in past captain MS Dhoni. I think that’s why they are a successful team. I think they are good enough to beat any team in this competition,” Malinga told ANI.

Even while both MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav failed to fire this world cup, the side has already booked its place in the last 4 after beating Bangladesh in their previous game.

Today’s game vs SL will see Kohli further tinker with his squad in order to find the right combination. Malinga was again on high praise for India stating that Kohli has been gifted with quality players around him.

“I think Virat has a good luxury. They (India) have good players, they showed their character in the IPL tournament. They know exactly their ownership in the team, every single player then Virat doesn’t have to do much,” Malinga said.

Then when talking about his own team’s outing this world cup, Malinga said that they were unfortunate to not qualify despite being in the mix. He pointed out at the side’s two washed out games to be the root cause in them not going through.

“Unfortunately we didn’t play two matches (against Pakistan and Bangladesh) because of rain wash. Then we won three matches. Then we have opportunity day after. We are also in a good position but unfortunately, we are not qualified for the World Cup semi-finals. Still, if we play in the last two matches we never know what’s going on. But we can’t control that,” he said.
