Kuldeep Yadav, has been a revelation in Indian Crickt for the last few months. With his impressive performances, the left arm chinaman has contibuted significanlty to the team’s success. However, like many athletes, he experienced a period of struggle, which saw him being sidelined from both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and international cricket.

But the year 2022 marked a turning point in his career, with his return to form being attributed to three key figures: Ricky Ponting, Rishabh Pant, and Shane Watson.

Kuldeep Yadav’s transforming journey at Delhi Capitals

When Kuldeep joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) franchise ahead of the IPL 2022, he was welcomed by head coach Ricky Ponting. Ponting’s faith in Kuldeep’s abilities was evident from the start. He assured Kuldeep that he would play all the games for the franchise. This vote of confidence from a figure as respected as Ponting was a significant morale boost for Kuldeep.

“The wrist spinner revealed how he emerged as Kuldeep 2.0. He said, “I never thought I’d change drastically over the last couple of years. When I joined DC in 2022, I did come in with changed skills, but I needed that confidence. I still remember when I met Ricky on the first day, he hugged me properly and said, we wanted to have you in our team. I know your skills,” Kuldeep said on DC Cafe.

Rishabh Pant, the captain of DC, also played a crucial role in Kuldeep’s resurgence. Kuldeep referred to Pant as his “brother,” highlighting the close bond they share. Pant’s trust in Kuldeep’s abilities and his unwavering support provided Kuldeep with the reassurance he needed during this critical phase of his career.

“Don’t worry about anything, and I will ensure you play all the games. So, Ponting helped me gain confidence. He used to give me ideas in training sessions. Rishabh, as well. He is my brother, has always trusted me, and gave me full support.”

Shane Watson, the former assistant coach of DC, was another key figure in Kuldeep’s return to form. Kuldeep expressed his gratitude towards Watson for his immense support throughout his journey. Watson’s advice and guidance were instrumental in helping Kuldeep navigate through the challenges he faced.

Kuldeep’s return to form was not just a personal victory but also a significant contribution to his team’s success. His performance in IPL 2024 was stellar, earning him a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad. This marked his first inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad, despite his successful runs in the ODI World Cup 2019 and 2023.
