Durand Cup back in Kolkata

After a brief uncertainty, the Durand Cup is back in the City of Joy. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) President, Kalyan Chaubey, formally requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to reinstate the matches in Kolkata.

The much-anticipated Kolkata derby between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan, scheduled for August 18, faced cancellation due to security concerns. Fans of the city’s ‘Big Three’ clubs took to the streets, demanding justice for a victim in the RG Kar Hospital rape and murder case. Jamshedpur was considered an alternative host, but Kolkata’s fervour prevailed.
