Indian batsman KL Rahul emerged with heroics with the bat when he played a match-winning 97-run unbeaten innings that helped India secure a convincing six-wicket win over Australia in the ongoing World Cup 2023 match in Chennai. From a stage when India’s top order crippled, KL Rahul came to the rescue to steer his side to a 200-run chase.
Speaking with Star Sports, KL Rahul admitted that he was puzzled by the criticism he received from spectators. He remembered the agonizing occasion when he missed the IPL owing to an injury, putting his participation in the World Cup in jeopardy. He stated that while recovering from an injury was a difficult process but he was well-versed in handling it because he had previously faced adversaries of a similar nature.
Rahul remained firm and focused on his goal of earning a spot in the Indian World Cup squad despite numerous hindrances that constantly stood in his way. This inspired him to get through the challenging moments and persevere through the tedious regimen of training and recovery.
“But all the years I have been playing for Indian cricket, in my short career I’ve undergone a lot of surgeries and also had a lot of injuries. So I know the pain of going through an injury and the process of coming back, and how hard it gets and when you’ve got to push, I already knew in my mind and understood the process. I was very positive as well and there was only one motivation that I had to come back before the World Cup, and I have to be a part of this home World Cup,” Rahul said.
He said participating in the home World Cup is a dream for any cricketer and has a special place in their hearts, really expressing his feelings about it. Rahul expressed his willingness to participate in this high profile event with a sense of real excitement.
“We were preparing for a lot of time keeping this in mind, and every morning I have been waking up thinking we need to win the World Cup, and that has been my only motivation. Every day in the morning, that’s what got me out of bed and pushed me to do the boring work in the gym and that tells you how special it is to me and everybody, playing a home world cup is a dream for a cricketer and is special to all cricketers, so yeah I’m pretty excited,” Rahul further said.
