KL Rahul reveals his batting position depends upon the format of the game

India’s swashbuckling batsman KL Rahul has become a regular face in the limited-overs setup for the team and their chances of the win against mighty Australia will depend a lot on how he does in the upcoming series. The two teams will take on each other in three T20Is, as many ODIs and four Tests, starting from November 27 as well. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, the batting order will certainly be a concern for India too.

While speaking about the issue, KL Rahul said in a virtual press conference on Thursday, “My batting position will depend on the format I am playing and what the team wants from me and what combination sits better. The last ODI series we played, I batted at number five and I kept the wickets so yeah, it is a role that I enjoyed and I am happy to play whatever role the team gives me.”

He also shared that despite not being played a lot in the 50-over cricket for a continued period of time, he has been in the squad for the last few years and he feels great to contribute for the team as well. It is also noteworthy that, KL Rahul has been in a formidable form in recent times and earned the orange cap in IPL 2020, for amassing 670 runs in 14 matches while leading the side.

Since he has named the vice-captain in absence of Rohit, the pressure will be on him too. Although he has led Kings XI Punjab recently in the IPL 2020 and he believes that he had to play similar roles there as well. He added that it was challenging as well as new too, but he got used to that role and started enjoying as well. However, the regular captain Virat will always be there and that will make his job a little easier as he shared. He considered that as a very proud moment, and he hopes to continue his onslaught.

“Look, I learnt to stay in the moment in the IPL, when I am wicket-keeping for those last 3-4 seconds when the bowler is running in, I learnt to switch on and not focus on the leadership part. It will be important for me going forward, it is important to start well in the white-ball leg, Australia is a country where we have enjoyed competing,” KL Rahul concluded.
