IPL 2021: KKR vs RCB rescheduled after COVID grips franchise; Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy test positive

Tonight’s IPL fixture between Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders has been rescheduled with several illness cases being reported from the KKR camp.

According to the Australian news outlet, The Age, among the players succumbing to the illness is the ace pacer, Pat Cummins.

As per ESPN Cricinfo, barring Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy, the entire KKR squad has tested negative for coronavirus.

The mystery off-spinner had left the bio-bubble to get his shoulder scanned, and it is believed that he may have contracted the disease from there. Chakravarthy has been facing niggles to his shoulder and knee since the end of last year.

The tournament which is being held behind closed doors and a secure bio-bubble is recording its first series of cases since the beginning of the 14th edition.

While the league is yet to release a statement over the rescheduling of the match, it is being understood that many members in the KKR camp are currently in quarantine with one positive case being detected as well.

The BCCI has reportedly informed the Gujarat Cricket Association about the developments that have been unearthed leading to the inevitable rescheduling of the game.

Royal Challengers Bangalore were planning to don their makeshift blue jersey tonight in honour of the frontline workers that have been relentlessly working against the gripping pandemic.

There is no update as to the severity of the outbreak and when the fixture will be rescheduled. Both the teams have two games to play at Ahmedabad before shifting venues once again.
