Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Harshit Rana has been suspended for one match and fined 100% of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. This incident occurred during the IPL 2024 match against Delhi Capitals at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on April 29, 2024.
Harshit Rana’s offence
Rana’s suspension and fine were due to his animated celebration after dismissing Delhi Capitals’ batter Abhishek Porel. After bowling a full-length delivery that dismantled Porel’s stumps, Rana gestured towards the dugout. This action was deemed a breach of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
This is not the first time Rana has been penalized for his on-field behaviour. Earlier in the season, during KKR’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rana was fined 60% of his match fees for a similar violation. In that instance, he had given a flying-kiss send-off to SRH batter Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him.

The IPL’s Code of Conduct is in place to ensure that all players maintain a certain level of decorum on the field. Breaches of this code are taken seriously, with penalties ranging from fines to match suspensions. In Rana’s case, his repeated violations have escalated the penalties imposed on him.
Rana’s suspension means he will miss KKR’s upcoming match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on May 3. This could be a significant blow for KKR, as Rana has been a key player for them, leading as their top wicket-taker with 11 wickets in 8 matches.
