Minister for youth affairs and sports Kiren Rijiju is all set to flag off the Fit India Freedom run this Friday, ahead of India’s 74th Independence Day. The initiative, headed by the sports ministry will take place till October 2.
People have struggled to maintain their fitness and general health due to lack of exercise during the lockdown period. In lieu of the social distancing protocol, the ministry has urged and encouraged the participants to run in accordance with their own pace and in their convenience.
The participants have the option to break up their runs over several days across this period. According to a statement released by the ministry, the participants can measure the distance with the help of a Global Positioning System (GPS) tracker or even manually.
Kiren Rijiju exclaimed that maintaining fitness is crucial during these times as it helps to boost the immunity as well. He said:
“The Fit India Freedom Run is yet another endeavour to strengthen the Fit India Movement envisaged by our Honourable Prime Minister and involve our citizens to embrace fitness as a way of life,”
“This event is even more important at this time because staying fit is key to building strong immunity, which is the need of the hour to fight Covid 19,”
