Ladakh, the nascent Union Territory of India is known for its picturesque natural beauty and attraction of tourists all over the country, as well as abroad. However, what was lacking in the beautiful region was a proper sports facility for its youth. Today, Ladakh enters a new era of sports, and marking that moment is the laying of the foundation stone to commemorate the development of numerous sporting facilities in the region. The ceremony was led by none other than the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju, as well as R. K. Mathur, the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.

The facilities are to be set up inside the newly proposed Lehat Open Stadium in Leh, the joint capital and largest town of the UT. The total cost for facilities has been approximated to be around Rs 10.68 crore and is planned for completion by January next year.
