Kiran Pahal, hailing from Haryana, secured her spot at the Paris Olympics by achieving a remarkable time of 50.92 seconds in the women’s 400m semifinal at the National Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula.

Kiran Pahal’s incredible performance

The qualifying standard for the event was set at 50.95 seconds, which Pahal successfully surpassed. Notably, this performance not only marked her season’s best timing but also made her the second Indian woman to complete the race in under 51 seconds.

In the semifinal, Pahal finished well ahead of her competitors, with Devy Aniba Zala of Gujarat taking a distant second place with a time of 53.44 seconds, followed by Kerala’s Sneha K, who clocked 53.51 seconds to secure the third position. Her achievement ignites hope as India eagerly anticipates her performance on the Olympic stage next month.

Earlier in the qualifying round, 23-year-old former international Kiran Pahal regained her form after multiple setbacks. She clocked 52.13s while finishing behind Deepanshi at the State meet, overcoming push Tamil Nadu’s Vithya Ramraj (personal best 52.25s in March) – the country’s No. 1 this year before the Haryana Championships – to the third spot in the India 400m list this season.
