Kidambi Srikanth powers into Hong Kong Open SF after opponent retires hurt

Former World No.1 and India’s best male shuttler Kidambi Srikanth stormed into the semifinals of Hong Kong Open after fifth seeded Cheng Long of China retired hurt.

Srikanth who is currently seeded 15th in the world won the first set easily as the Indian defeated the Chinese by 21-13 in just 13 minutes.

It was in the second set where the Indian was leading by 4 points the Chinese sustained injury and decided to retire.

This was the Indian’s only second victory over the Chinese opponent in 8 outings as the only victory before this game came back in 2017 when the Indian defeated the chinese shuttler in Australian open in straight sets by 22-20 and 21-16.

The Indian will now face either Victor Axelsen or Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu in the semifinal of the Hong Kong open.
