Former India captain as well as legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev has recently asked the Indian pace attack to bowl to their strength and not go with the bouncy wickets in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia, which is slated to begin on Thursday.

Team India wouldn’t get the service of their experienced pace bowler Ishant Sharma. However, they still have a good pace-bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and the newcomer duo – Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini. But still, the veteran pacer felt that they will lack in experience of bowling on Australian pitches and that might trouble as well.

“Our fast bowlers are not that used to bowling on Australian pitches. Sometimes they may get carried away when they see a little bit of bounce and start bowling short. It’s very important to understand their pace and back their strengths,” Kapil Dev said during a virtual session hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here. “We may have a very good pace bowling attack at this stage, but they (Australians) know the conditions better than our fast bowlers.”

He also added that Australia will have the advantage in the first day/night Test in Adelaide as they have played more matches than the visitors, India. Moreover, they will play at home condition.

“Definitely Australia have the edge. They are playing in their backyard. If India were playing a pink-ball Test in India, I would say 80 per cent our chances. But Australia have played so many (pink ball) Tests and they understand the conditions better under the floodlights,” he again shared.

Notably, India won the 2018-19 Test series in Australia by 2-1 where Australia’s key players – David Warner and Steve Smith didn’t feature. They were banned at that time due to their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal. However, this time they will be trying to win the trophy back as well.

It is also noteworthy that, Virat Kohli will play the first Test only and then he will return home to be with his wife and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma for the birth of their first child in January 2021.
