Legendary cricketer Kapil Dev, now the newly-appointed president of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), is firmly backing Indian golfer Aditi Ashok’s pursuit of Olympic glory. Aditi’s remarkable performance at the Tokyo Olympics, where she finished an impressive fourth, has fueled hopes for a medal in golf at the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Kapil Dev backs Aditi’s chances at Paris
In Tokyo, Aditi’s consistent play kept her in medal contention until the very end. She missed the podium by just one stroke behind bronze medalist Lydia Ko and two strokes behind gold winner Nelly Korda. Kapil Dev recognizes the importance of form in both cricket and golf, emphasizing that if Aditi maintains her current level of play, she stands a good chance of securing a medal in Paris.
“I want to see Aditi playing with the same pomp that she played with in the Tokyo Olympics. For cricketers and golfers, form is very important. If Aditi plays in the same form, she has a good chance to win a medal. And if she has a bad week, then she can only sit out and rue the loss,” Kapil said.

The World Cup-winning captain also highlighted the need for quality international-level golf courses in India. While some Indian courses have witnessed impressive scores, Kapil believes that creating tougher conditions will elevate the game. His vision as PGTI president is to bring more money to golf and increase playing opportunities for Indian golfers. More tours, tournaments, and sponsorships are essential to achieve this goal.
As Aditi Ashok tees off in Paris, Kapil Dev’s unwavering support echoes across the greens, hoping that her form remains steady and her talent shines brightly on the Olympic stage.
