‘It’s coming home!’ – what was initially a parody for past England football team’s slumps almost turned into a spectacle in the World Cup 2018 as England went all the way through to the semi finals after a sizzling run of wins. The loss against runners-up Croatia in the semis was a tough one to take for the Three Lions but after the team’s advent in to the playoff stage of the newly commenced UEFA Nations League, captain Harry Kane is all about redemption.
“To have a chance to win a trophy in an England shirt does not happen not very often,” said the Tottenham striker.
“If we win that trophy, in my eyes, it’s a better year than 2018.
“Hopefully, we can win some silverware. Of course, 2018 was fantastic but for me, the main thing is the team and we want to win things. We want to make fans happy and be proud.
“People now expect us to do well and before the World Cup there was no expectation, so it’s great that we’ve turned that around.
“We’re the only team from the World Cup semi-finals to have got through their Nations League group, and we had probably one of the hardest groups.
“That was big for us, to prove that it wasn’t just a one-off, that this team were really building for something special.”
The Three Lions have shown they can beat the big guns in the world and Europe and the UEFA Nations League should provide another platform for this promising England squad to display their caliber.
