Liverpool FC manager Jürgen Klopp is renowned for his hilarious gestures, both on and off the field. Recently, an example of his comic acts have been unveiled by the club midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
During an interview with The Athletic, the Netherlands international revealed that back in 2018, before their Champions League final against Real Madrid in Kiev, the squad noticed their German gaffer wearing Cristiano Ronaldo branded boxers during the pre match pep talk.
“We saw he was wearing the boxer shorts of Cristiano Ronaldo. He did the meeting with his shirt stuffed inside his ‘CR7’ boxers. The whole changing room was on the floor laughing their heads off.” the 28 year old said.
The Reds were heading onto the presigeous tournament’s final after 11 long years, since losing the silverware to Italian giants AC Milan in 2007. The nervous atmosphere soon went off after the players saw the 52 year old German in their opponent talisman’s brand underwear.
“That really broke the ice. Usually in those situations, everyone is serious and concentrated. But he was relaxed and made this joke.
“He’s done hundreds of jokes likes that. If you see that your manager is really confident and relaxed, it will have an effect on players. He is a father figure in those things for the players. With his jokes and his body language, he takes the pressure off players.”
Despite the Reds losing the trophy to Zidane’e star studded Galacticos 3–1, Klopp and the team managed to reach the final again this year, and also beating Spurs 2-0, putting an end to their trophy less streak.
