Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Umesh Yadav shed light on his role in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The right-arm pacer registered his best ever IPL figures of 4-23 against PBKS at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Yadav was roped in by the two-time champions for his base price at the mega auctions. He has had a stellar start to the season with the new ball. The 34-year-old is the current purple cap holder with 8 wickets in 3 matches.
After picking up wickets in the first over in the previous two matches, Yadav continued the trend with the wicket of Mayank Agarwal in the last ball of the opening over. He followed it up with the wickets of Liam Livingstone, Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar.
Opening about the role with his new franchise, Yadav said after the first innings:
“Feels very happy and lively. Coming back after a long time and doing well feels sweet. To do things that you wish for, it’s a great feeling. My job is to do well in the powerplay and take wickets. If I do that, it benefits the team.”
“I think it is a chaseable score” – Umesh Yadav
On the back of Umesh Yadav’s four-fer and tight spells by the spinners, KKR restricted the explosive PBKS unit to a paltry 137.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa top-scored for the batting side with 31 while Rabada followed it up with a 25-run cameo in the end.
Believing that KKR should be able to chase the score down with the onset of dew, Yadav said:
“I think it’s a chaseable score. Our first game here had a slightly sticky surface but it’s played better today and we shouldn’t have many hiccups chasing the score down.”
