There have been speculations regarding the fate of Asia Cup 2023. Previously, SLC President reportedly stated that Asia Cup’s future will be decided ‘soon.’ Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has now said that the 2023 Asia Cup deadlock will be broken shortly when the board presidents of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will visit Ahmedabad during the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final. The IPL final will be held on Sunday, May 28, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Jay Shah comments on Asia Cup
Shah confirmed that the chief of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will meet in Ahmedabad during the IPL final to discuss the future of the tournament.
The continental championship is set to take place in September 2023 and will be hosted by Pakistan. Notably, India are unwilling to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
“The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the Tata IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action in relation to Asia Cup 2023,” Shah was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
