Team India have been taking on England in a full-fledged series which started with the four-match Test series in Chennai. Meanwhile, Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah on Friday achieved a rare feat as he made his Test debut at home, after playing 17 overseas Tests in South Africa, England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Australia. However, with this, he surpassed former pacer Javagal Srinath.

Bumrah had played his first Test in 2018 against South Africa. Since then, he has played 17 Tests and has 79 wickets in his name which came at an average of 21.59. However, this is the longest time any Indian player had waited to play his first Test at home after making the debut way back.

Here is the list of the players who faced this before:

Most away Tests played before the maiden Test at home (India)

17 JASPRIT BUMRAH

12 Javagal Srinath

11 RP Singh

10 Sachin Tendulkar

10 Ashish Nehra

On the other hand, England captain Joe Root, who has been playing his 100th Test, has won the toss and elected to bat against India.

“We are going to bat first. We are going to try and get the best of this wicket, think it will deteriorate as the game moves forward and maybe go up down for the seamers and take spin for the spinners. I do enjoy playing cricket in India. Looking forward to a great series,” Root said during the toss.

Meanwhile, India captain Virat Kohli too admitted that he would have elected to bat as well.

“Would have batted first as well. It was an amazing phase for us, having a child is an amazing feeling and combined with the way the team played in Australia. We are not thinking about the Test championship at the moment, just take one game at a time. I come in, Ishant is back. Nadeem plays his second game, Ashwin and Washi, both are starting. Same batting order from the Brisbane Test,” Kohli shared.

As far as the game is concerned, England have been going strong. Although they lost two wickets – Rory Burns and Daniel Lawrence, Joe Root and Dominic Sibley have been going strong with the fifties and they reached the 200-run mark as well.
