Jasprit Bumrah led a remarkable bowling performance on Day 1 of the Perth Test, helping India take control of the match against Australia. In an intense opening round of the much-anticipated Perth Test bout, Australia landed the first punch. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spells helped India land a stinging counter-punch and finish the opening day in the driver’s seat.

A high-quality contest between two world-class pace attacks dominated the first day of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Optus Stadium. Batters, including stars Virat Kohli and Steve Smith, had little joy on a pitch offering its trademark pace, seam and bounce.

Jasprit Bumrah’s magic on Day 1

  • India’s Innings: India was bowled out for 150 runs in 49.1 overs. Josh Hazlewood was the standout bowler for Australia, taking four wickets for 29 runs. Nitish Kumar Reddy top-scored for India with 41 runs, while Rishabh Pant contributed 37 runs.
  • Australia’s Innings: In reply, Australia was reduced to 67/7 at stumps. Bumrah was the star of the show, picking up four wickets for 17 runs in his fiery spell. He dismissed key players like Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith (who registered a rare golden duck), and Travis Head.
  • Key Moments: Bumrah’s spell was particularly devastating, with two wickets in an over, including the dismissal of Khawaja and Smith. Mohammed Siraj and debutant Harshit Rana also played crucial roles in Australia’s collapse.

This performance by Bumrah and the Indian pacers has put Australia on the back foot early in the match. The hosts will need to regroup and put up a strong fight in the remaining days to avoid a significant deficit.

Day 1 of the Perth Test was a thrilling contest, with both teams showcasing their bowling prowess. India’s bowlers, led by Bumrah, have set the tone for what promises to be an exciting match. Australia will need to come back strongly on Day 2 to take control of the match.
