ENG vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah becomes fastest Indian pacer to reach 100 Test wickets

The Mumbai Indians pacer had made his debut in the tour of South Africa three years ago, and has been a vital cog of the Indian pace battery ever since. He played a substantial role in India’s successive series wins Down Under and also picked up a hattrick on the tour of the West Indies.

Bumrah now has 100 Test wickets to his name, and he achieved the feat in 24 Tests, one less than the legendary Kapil Dev. The overall feat of being the quickest bowler to reach 100 Test wickets lies with Ravichandran Ashwin, who notched it in just 18 Tests. The list is dominated by spinners with the likes of Erapalli Prasanna (20), Anil Kumble (21), Subhash Gupte (22), BS Chandrasekhar (22) and Pragyan Ojha (22) being ahead of Bumrah in the race to 100 wickets in the longest format.

Heading into Day 5, India needed to scalp all 10 wickets to walk away with a series lead. While Shardul Thakur provided the initial breakthrough with the dismissal of Rory Burns, Bumrah took charge with twin dismissals that swung the pendulum completely in the visitors’ favour.

Ollie Pope could not bring his bat down in time to cope with Bumrah’s searing incoming delivery and was castled. The pacer followed it up with a scorching yorker to send back Jonny Bairstow. Watch the videos of the dismissals right below:

India are on the cusp of a historic victory at The Oval to walk away with the series lead into the final Test at Old Trafford, Manchester.
