Mumbai City FC has made a significant move in the transfer market by signing Brandon Fernandes, a key midfielder from FC Goa. This transfer is a free one as Fernandes’ contract with FC Goa was expiring this summer. The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Mumbai City FC, which can be further extended.
Brandon Fernandes’ Legacy in ISL
Fernandes has been a crucial player for FC Goa over the last seven seasons. During his tenure at FC Goa, he scored 17 goals and provided a record 31 assists. He has also led the team to multiple titles, including the Indian Super League (ISL) League Winners’ Shield in 2019-20, the Super Cup in 2019, and the Durand Cup in 2021.
In the 2023-24 ISL season, Fernandes scored 3 goals, including one against Mumbai in the semifinal, and made 4 assists. Notably, he created the most chances (60) in the ISL last season. Throughout his career, he has made 163 appearances across Indian domestic tournaments and the AFC Champions League, scoring 25 goals and providing 31 assists. In national team colours, he has played 25 games, contributing 7 assists.
Fernandes’ departure from FC Goa is a significant loss for the club. He had been with the club for seven years and was the captain. He had initiated extension talks at the start of the season, but unfortunately, they did not materialize.
